Live Sermon 2007Performance, steel, milk, speaker, sound, pigment, ashDuration 12 mins
The first performance I ever made. I modified a small speaker so that it sat at the back of my mouth in the opening of my throat. Through it played the sound of a man singing. The man in question was the resident priest in the Gurdwara my parents co-built in Attowal; our family's ancestral village in Punjab. The disembodied re-bodied voice was both emotionally close to me and eerily alien.
